Having an outdoor space such as a garden, deck or patio is not just about decorating. It is about extending the
living space of your home. You will need to furnish this outdoor living space to create it. This sometimes can be expensive and tricky. But, there are ways to not only pick the right furniture for you, but also keep it like new for years to come and to protect it.
It can seem confusing. Each of these materials has cons and pros with all the different materials used to
make outdoor furniture. Let us look at some of these materials and what some of these cons and pros are.
Plastic - of course, plastic is naturally waterproof. This means, of course, you can leave it out year round. But rain can collect in the crevices and backs of the furniture also causing dust and dirt buildup in those areas. The UV rays of the sun can also fade plastic very quickly. Not to mention plastic is the least fashionable of the options.
Wood - There are a lot of different types of woods used to make outdoor furniture. Most can be compliment your space and
very beautiful. But, almost all of wooden furniture will suffer from exposure to the elements of weather. There is one exception to this, which we will discuss later.
Teak - This is a usually used wood for making outdoor furniture. It naturally contains silica. Silica makes the wood resistant to the effects of water such as rot, warping and swelling, fungal decay, and most chemicals. It is also resistant to fire, alkalis and acids. To help it resist the adverse effects of weather there are also certain oils available for the treatment of teak. Although the UV rays of the sun over time exposure can cause teak furniture to patina, a process that turns
the wood a silvery gray color.
Aluminum – Aluminum is one of the most ordinary metals used to make outdoor furniture. Aluminum can be very long lasting. But, exposure to lotions such as exhaust from vehicles and sunscreen and perspiration can strip away the powder coating on aluminum furniture. Although, if this protective finish is compromised, aluminum will not rust it can corrode.
Stone - The benefits are obvious. Stone is very durable and not subject to tear and wear from the elements like most other materials used to
make outdoor furniture. The downside is also very obvious. It is slightly less stylish than most of the other materials depending on your theme. And, of course it is extremely difficult to maneuver because it is heavy.
All of these materials have something in ordinary. By weather and nature (pollen, animals, dust), they can be damaged or at least made less beautiful. By simply protecting them with an
outdoor furniture cover , this can be easily avoided. An
outdoor furniture cover can be purchased in many different sizes to fit almost any piece of furniture and to suit your particular taste. Depending on what type you choose, there are also many different materials and features of
